Machteld graduated as a Master of Law at the University of Antwerp. She started her career as a lawyer. After more than 11 years she exchanged the legal profession for higher education, where she was mainly occupied with social law.
She joined the team of the Employers' Federation in 2018 as legal advisor. Since July 2022, she has assumed the position of secretary of the Employers' Federation and the Social Fund of the sector; she represents the Employers’ Federation in Joint Committee 226, the General Affairs Working Group and the sector’s Conciliation Office.
